Rob Johnson has been a racer for 35 years and a promoter, track designer and trail boss for 15 years.

Obviously, he's always had a profound passion for motorcycling. When he was 15, he saw the need to protect riding areas in northern New York and formed a 150-member ATV club that still exists today. As a young man he designed several local motocross tracks, raced the Canadian circuits and was a bike tester for Cycle World Canada.

For 25 years he has run a custom log and timber-frame-home building company with his two sons and his father. The Johnsons are fortunate enough to have two large properties in New York, one in the Adirondacks and the other a family farm in Binghamton. Both have been converted into what Rob refers to as an “ATV and motorcycle Disneyland.” Motocross and pit bike tracks, trials courses, EnduroCross and long hare scramble tracks crisscross both properties. On the Adirondack property it’s not uncommon for Sunday afternoons to be filled with the sounds of many bikes racing through the woods as the local riders love to have a place to ride.

About five years ago Rob started hosting the NYOA Black Sky hare scramble on the Binghamton property. After two successful races GNCC came calling and he hosted the Black Sky GNCC in 2019. In 2020 as a promotor Rob’s track became a NYOA and AMA East Hare Scrambles Championship Series track. He hosts riding schools before the races with some of the pro riders.

Ten years ago he met his future wife Susan (who rides) and they now split their time between New York and Key West, Florida; they own restaurants at both locations and can ride every day in the Keys. Rob and his sons also started a filming business, Black Sky Entertainment. They do work for Polaris and Jeep as well as NBC and Discovery.

When he is not sculpting art or building homes Rob certainly lives and breathes riding. He spends a fair amount of his free time designing and building motorcycle-mounted camera rigs to tell the motorcycle adventure story better.

Rob and Susan are excited to some day lay out a full East Coast Adirondack Mountain adventure ride loaded with beautiful vistas and splendid fall colors, all wrapped up in the luxury accommodations and service that Speed and Sport Adventures’ guests will come to expect.
